Prototyping

Creation of a prototype and its detailed analysis will help to understand whether it was possible to technically implement the initial idea in the finished device.

3D prototyping of products is considered one of the most important points in development. Prototyping helps to identify all the shortcomings of the product to correct them. With a prototype, you can measure the functionality of the product and analyze the operation of the system as a whole Prototype is made on the basis of the technical assignment, it is a full-size functional presentation model … After all testing and making adjustments to it the approved version of the prototype model is put into production.

DEVELOPMENT OF PROTOTYPE PRODUCTS ALLOWS TO CHECK:

  • Hardware;
  • ease of collection of the product;
  • strength and soiling of body materials;
  • ease of use, tactile sensations when touching, product weight.

PROTOTYPES OF PRODUCTS: TYPES

  1. Industrial prototypes such as electronics. They are usually referred to as the master model.
  2. Architectural presentation layouts city, house or a separate room.
  3. Transport – prototypes any vehicle (car, ship, plane, etc.).
  4. Product prototype – a model that is used for exhibitions and presentations.

3D MODELING

Creating a prototype product: stages

Preparation of technical specifications – a document that contains all the requirements for the product. It should contain the dimensions and characteristics of the filling, appearance, principles of operation and functions of the device. Additional materials will be needed: drawings, sketches, photos, videos, etc.

Creation of a 3D model of the future product. After receiving all the documentation, the 3D modeler starts working on the project. An accurate model is created using special software (Solidworks, 3Ds Max, Maya). Then it is loaded into a milling machine or 3D printer.

At this stage, in addition to modeling the product itself, simulated digital reality around him. This helps in testing the future product. For example, when creating cars, an emergency situation is simulated. So digital prototyping helps to conduct crash tests. This allows you to shorten the production time of your vehicles and save money.

The third step is choosing a prototype manufacturing method: 3D printing or milling. Depending on the purpose of the product, its dimensions and characteristics, the most optimal option is selected.

PROTOTYPING METHODS: PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES

3D milling

Plastic products lend themselves well to processing on a milling machine. CNC milling machine is an engraving and milling machine equipped with numerical control for automated calculation and execution of technological process operations. All the necessary data is entered into it – a 3D model, after which it starts to work.

With the help of machines, you can make plastic blanks. They are:

  • bar;
  • leafy;
  • in the form of a standard profile (T-beams, I-beams, channels, angles).

Machine can shape the workpiece, cut holes, process projections or depressions, apply inscriptions and drawings to the surface, cut out a 3D relief.

The main advantage is cut quality when milling … Surfaces can be made matte or glossy, processed to a mirror finish.

The downside of milling is that the process needs high speed due to which the drill bit may become hot and the plastic will melt. Plastic shavings can also sinter into lumps.
but for large objects, this method is most suitable.

CHOOSING A PROTOTYPE 3D PRINTING METHOD

FDM prototyping technology: range of materials:

FDM printing (layer-by-layer prototyping) – a method in which on the moving platform is layered with molten material.

  • ABS plastic (high impact thermoplastic resin);
  • PLA plastic (biodegradable, environmentally friendly plastic);
  • HIPS plastic (very durable plastic);
  • PC plastic (hard polymer that transmits light well);
  • Laywoo-D3 (resin from wood particle binder);
  • Laybrick (simulates sandstone textures);
  • PVA: PVAc and PVAl (absorb moisture well, can dissolve in water);
  • nylon (flexible and lightweight plastic).

SLS printing is suitable for working with the following materials:

  • polymers – polystyrene, polyamide, nylon (with different fillers, for example, fiberglass);
  • metals;
  • glauconite sand.

Stereolithography or SLA printing b – a method similar to the previous one. The difference lies in using liquid polymer instead of powders.

The advantages of stereolithography are rapid prototyping and prototype accuracy. Cons – for 3D printing only one material can be used which can be toxic.

3D PROTOTYPING:

  • the chosen production method;
  • the complexity of the geometry of the prototype being manufactured;
  • timing of the project;
  • materials to be selected for production.
